LIVING WITH AUNTY GRACE

EPISODE 6:

My heart picked up beat like thousands of horses hooves on a race track.

Aunty grace locked the door and took a step into the dimly lit room. She took another step and faltered, falling on her knees and she burst into fits of laughter.

Uncle kunle ran towards her.

"Are you okay grace"?

She kept laughing, trying to get in words to explain herself and also breathe. She smelt of alcohol. I watched the both of them with feigned interest. All I wanted to do was run into my room.

"Uncle kunle can I get you anything?"I asked, walking towards the kitchen.

Kunle carried a still laughing aunty grace to their bedroom.

"It's okay. I think she's drunk. Don't worry about her, go and get some sleep".

I nodded and walked to my room.my nerves had calmed down and I was happy with the accessment of aunty grace condition.

She was drunk! At least she won't remember what she had seen tonight. I thought.

I was a bundle of nerves the next morning, still habouring a little fear that aunty grace would remember what she had seen. I carefully laid out the breakfast tray on the bedside table before hurrying out of the room and off to school. Aunty grace seemed to have been sleeping soundly.

Elohor couldn't quite stifle her laughter while I narrated my ordeal from the previous night.

"I remember warning you that he was patiently waiting to strike, and he did. You better be careful before your aunty throws you out for snatching her boyfriend" I felt really sad. I did love my Aunty very much, but Uncle kunle was another matter.

"There's a party on Friday, you coming?"

I wasn't expecting to be invited to a party. What would I tell aunty grace?

"Well you know I can't.. I don't know what aunty grace would...

"Oh please!" Elohor cut in.

"Everything aunty grace aunty grace! What is it? Just tell her boyfriend to ask her. Sheybi he likes you."

I was shocked at my friend's outburst "why are you talking like this? Just because of a party?"

I stood up and left Elohor staring after me.

I walked to the school library, deciding at the last minute to get a book to calm my nerves.

And walked into him.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you" I apologized bending down to pick up the book he had dropped when I had bumped into him.

"It's okay. I should have been more careful.." Tobe helped me up

"Nse right?" He asked.
